patrick cunningham Luke Abbott crowned himself king of ...what you could call deconstructed ambient music, with "Wysing Forest."
That album, and all that has come since, Mr Abbott has really blossomed from an artist who showed a ton of promise with his first LP, and two EP's leading up to "Wysing Forest," to being my uncontested favorite electronic artist. The synth tones, the pacing of the dynamic inflection, the beautifully composed chord progressions.... no one comes close.
I'm a big fan of "burial," "four tet," the pomegranate album by "nicolas jaar," ..... But wow wow wow.
This album reminds me a lot of the long running mid to late 70's ambient jazz experiments like Keith Jarrett's quartet work. I can't imagine a fan of ambient music being disappointed by this, or "music for a flat landscape," or "Wysing Forest," .......I know he doesn't get a lot of press. But holy shit. What an amazing artist.
